Convening Education Change is my active hope1 response to today’s challenges. I’m Pat Gere, an educator who believes that the experiences of children and youth influence the future.
Although I’ve always had a natural inclination to teach, I didn’t want to be a teacher. The only image I had was of the common public school. Serendipitously, I read a book about Montessori education; then had to see for myself that something this different was actually possible. I visited a Toronto program and that was the beginning of a 50 year pedagogical journey. Throughout I’ve remained curious, open to what else might be possible – what was out there that I just hadn’t experienced or heard about yet.

I am certain that the way we educate is just as important as curriculum; that how children and youth develop and interact with the world, one another and society is deeply connected to who they will be as adults; that children’s experiences create the future.
We can change the world’s trajectory by changing the way we educate. While Montessori is the pedagogy I know best, there are other pedagogies, other possibilities. Convening Education Change is an opportunity to learn from others, to share with others and to act with others to bring change to education. Please join me. Together we can imagine, influence, and create a brighter future.
